Three facilities receive an 'A' for the Fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

HOUSTON, TX – HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe, HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast and HCA Houston Healthcare West have earned an “A” for the fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing achievements protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.

“I’m extremely proud of these three facilities for achieving this national recognition, especially during such a turbulent time in healthcare,” said Mujtaba Ali-Khan, DO, chief medical officer of HCA Houston Healthcare. “They remain committed to following best practices, which allows us to continually deliver higher-quality care. At HCA Houston Healthcare, we are driven by our mission to care for and improve human life and our focus is first and foremost on our patients and their safety.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of these HCA Houston Healthcare hospitals for their commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe, HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast and HCA Houston Healthcare West were awarded their “A” grades on November 10, when Leapfrog updated their fall 2021 grades.
