HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake continues to serve as a critical healthcare resource for the Bay Area community.

Webster, TXHCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake has been re-designated as a Level II (Major) trauma center by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Originally designated in 2014, HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake is the only Level II trauma center in the Bay Area and one of only 28 facilities in the state of Texas designated as a Level II trauma center.

“A trauma victim’s chance of survival is greatest if care is received in the “Golden Hour” from the time of severe injury,” said Nathan Deal, chief medical officer at HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake. “Our Level II trauma capabilities allow trauma patients to receive definitive critical care immediately and right in our community.”

The State of Texas Department of Health Services assigns trauma designations from Level I (highest) to Level IV (lowest). Levels I and II provide the same level of care for trauma patients. Both must provide a comprehensive trauma program with a wide range of specialists and life-saving equipment available 24 hours a day. Level I facilities offer teaching and research in addition to comprehensive trauma services.

Additionally, Level II trauma centers provide trauma prevention and continuing education programs for staff and community members. They also have a dedicated physician medical director of trauma services as well as nurse leaders dedicated to quality improvement initiatives and assessments for the program.

“Our re-designation as a Level II trauma center is a testament to the work of our incredible trauma team,” said Todd Caliva, chief executive officer of HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake. “We are driven by our mission to care for and improve human life and we are honored to provide this high level of service to ensure Bay Area residents have access to advanced trauma care close to home.”

HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake is a full-service acute care hospital with several specialized services including the neuroscience institute, a dedicated heart hospital, comprehensive women’s services including high-risk obstetrical care, a Level III neonatal ICU, a pediatric emergency department and the area’s only pediatric ICU. The hospital is a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and an accredited Cycle III Chest Pain Center with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
